Welcome to Bell's Big Family!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

DJ’s cheat sheet for Tinker’s kids!

We were planning on doing a big blog post all about Brook, when suddenly we went from no kittens at the Academy to a very full house, seemingly overnight!

First, DAWS got Bell, a very pregnant five-year-old momcat, from Georgia — from the same folks in Georgia who brought us Tailor previously. She arrived at the Academy after a short flight, thanks to a brilliant Delta airlines employee and friend of cats, on January 15th. Then, while we were waiting for her kittens to be delivered, we heard that DAWS would be receiving her mom and siblings from Georgia, too, and when they asked if we wanted them, we said “Yes!”

DJ’s cheat sheet for Bell’s latest! [Ed: They are all girls]

But we later found out, it was Bell’s daughter, Tinker, and Tinker’s kittens/Bell’s grandkittens, Dabble, Monkey, Putter, and Trifle. They arrived after a 13-hour non-stop overnight drive by a dedicated kitten transporter, on February 1st. Tinker is about 3 years old, and her kittens were born on December 12th of 2019.

And they had nearly just arrived when Bell decided to deliver three brand-new kittens, giving Tinker’s kids a set of aunts on Thursday, February 6th! Welcome to “Bell’s Whistles,” Foghorn, Klaxon, and Beep!

For now, we’re keeping the groups separate, because of the big age difference in the kittens. It’s unclear whether we’ll find an opportunity to bring them together before they graduate. But we’re bringing them together virtually in this welcome post since Bell didn’t get her own welcome post yet!

“Grandma” Bell - 4.5 or 5 years young

Foghorn - Female - one day old

Beep - Female - one day old

Klaxon - Female - one day old

Tinker - Bell’s Daughter and Momcat of Four - 3 years old

Putter - Male - 8 weeks old

Monkey - Male - 8 weeks old

Trifle - Male - 8 weeks old

Dabble - Female - 8 weeks old

As usual, here’s all the photos from the photoshoots! We got some good photos of Brook and the faculty that we’ll share in another post here soon!

Welcome to Brook and Pebble!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

DJ’s cheat sheet is simpler and more complex than usual!

You’ve probably already noticed the latest attendees of the Academy, Brook and Pebble. Our new vet, Dr. Katz, was looking after them for T.A.I.L.S, who had rescued them recently. T.A.I.L.S. were looking for a foster and we fell in love with Brook and her kitten at first sight, so we offered to take them if no foster could be found - and if they’d be willing to sign them over to DAWS, the shelter we normally work with.

Of course, as soon as we offered, the fine folks at T.A.I.L.S. agreed to sign them over and have them put through the Kitten Academy! This is the first time we’ve had a class with just one kitten in it - it’s possible if not likely that we’ll ask DAWS if they want to add in more classmates later in the semester.

We would really love to see Brook and Pebble adopted together, and hope some of you consider applying for them as a pair. It’s never too early to put in an application!

On that note, we’d love to see the Tinypants adopted in groups as well, with their mom, Tailor! They’ve got approximately a month and a half left until graduation now, so it’s a great time to apply!

Finally, Twist is the only one of the Wiggles still at the Academy, and we expect her adopter to pick her up on October 23rd. She’ll be going home all the way to Arizona!

Here’s our first photoshoot with Brook and Pebble, and some bonus faculty photos and Whimsy too!

Welcome to Tailor's Bespoke Tinypants!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

DJ’s cheat sheet!

Our newest momcat, Tailor, arrived a week ago from near Savannah, Georgia. She delivered two of her kittens on the transport up from GA, and the third and final kitten at the Academy. Her paperwork says she may be half Bengal and despite her diminutive size, her amazing colors seem to bear that out! Thanks to Tabby Tales and DAWS for coordinating her arrival at the Academy!

Before we get on with the official photos, we have the results of the Basepaws poll from our last entry. You have chosen Magnolia to be the faculty member that we test first! We’ll be sure to let you know when we submit the test and the results when it comes back!

All right then - on with the kittens!

Knickerbocker - Male

Culotte - Female

Blue Jean - Female

Tailor - Momcat

And here’s the rest:

Welcome Whimsical Wiggles!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

DJ made a cheat-sheet!

There’s one more post in our five-part art series, but not today. Also, don’t forget about KA-Con 3!

Today we give our official welcome to Whimsy and her five wiggly kittens! Whimsy is our first cat brought to us through our new shelter, the Danbury Animal Welfare Society. They are completely awesome and you should check them out!

As you know, Whimsy has been fighting off a bit of an upper respiratory infection. She’s still sneezing a bit but otherwise it seems like she’s feeling much better lately! She’s been eating and drinking on her own again and we’re continuing her treatments of antivirals and antibiotics until she’s completely well.

Her five little kittens seem super healthy so far! Here they are:

Fidget - Female - Torbie

Flip - Female - Dilute Tortie?

Twist - Female - Tabby

Cartwheel - Male - Tabby

Twiddle - Male - Tabby

Whimsy - Momcat

It can be difficult to tell Twist and Cartwheel apart on the stream. Twist has a bold white ring on her back right leg, and also a white neck under her chin. Cartwheel doesn’t - so that’s an easy way to tell who is who if those parts are visible. When they get big enough, we may consider collars to help differentiate them.

Here’s all the rest of the photoshoot!

Song and Dance!

Hello, Kitten Academicians!

As you no doubt are aware, we've had four new arrivals since DJ and Mr. A returned from vacation!  First, let's introduce the new characters:

Kazoo - Male

Foxtrot - Female

Waltz - Male

Cha-Cha - Female

We have plans to integrate the new kittens with Song's "Squints" - Kazoo already is getting along pretty well with them and spends most of his time in the main room with them.  On Thursday the 15th, Song and Fiddle will be going for their spay/neuter.  At that time, we'll bring the dance kittens into the main room with the rest of the Squints.  When Song and Fiddle return, they'll be placed in the Annex while they recover.   After that, we'll "play it by ear."

Although applications are already coming in to On Angels' Wings in Crystal Lake for these kittens, if you find yourself falling in love with one, don't hesitate to put in your own application.  It often happens that an approved applicant falls through and a kitten goes to a second or third applicant instead.  At the very least, by having an application on file, you can be first in line to adopt a future cat or kitten.

Before we leave you with the rest of the photos from the photoshoot, let us say that JimmyD and JennyD did a superlative job of running the Kitten Academy while we were on vacation!  We enjoyed watching them while we were out of the country and JimmyD did a brilliant job with the nightly streams!  We hope we can continue to provide the same level of quality that he did.  And hopefully, he'll return from time to time as a guest host!

Fish Cheatsheet Number Two!

Hello Kitten Watchers!

We realized today that the cheatsheet with kitten names and photos that's on the live stream for the Fish is their baby photos!  It was a little out of date, so this post is just to provide a new one.

On Angels' Wings informs us that all of the the Fish are already adopted!  They'll go for their Graduation on the 18th of May, and be collected by their adopters the following weekend.

Haddock - "Haddie" - Female

Pomfret - "Pom" - Female

Halibut - "Hal" - Male

Trout - "Trout" - Male

As always, there were a lot of other photos we gathered during the shoot, and they're all here for you to enjoy!

Introducing Song's Quintet!

Hello, Kitten Academicians!

Before we dive into the details of the newest Kitten Academy class, a few things we'd like to get out of the way:

  • As of right now, Latte and Arial are still looking for adopters!  Contact On Angels' Wings in Crystal Lake, IL to apply.
  • The contest to help with suggestions for Sarah Donner's (PG-13 Link!) upcoming music video for Kitten Academy is closed now, but we expect it will take some time for us to parse through all the wonderful suggestions, and for Sarah to decide what she'd like to do!
  • We're still getting some questions about Angel - we apologize for not properly explaining the situation.  We briefly addressed it in last night's close-up stream, just a few minutes in.  The short version is, she's gone home to be with her owner, and we think it's good!

So, as most of you doubtless know by now, on Tuesday the 25th, our latest Kitten Academy class arrived!  Song was picked up by the Logan County Animal Control about a week prior.  They send out notices to shelters all over Illinois, and once a week, transport animals that the shelters are willing to take.  Song was pregnant when Logan County Animal Control picked her up, but delivered her kittens on Tuesday the 18th, while she was still there.

That's everything we know about her history!

Here's your cheat-sheet:

Song

Cello (Female)

Mandolin (Female)

Banjo (Male)

Lute (Male)

Fiddle (Male)

As usual, here's the remainder of the photos from the shoot:

Fish Photo Shoot!

Hello, Kitten Academicians!

We don't need no education!

We've got some photos of the Fish and Angel for you -- some from two weeks ago, and some from last night.  I bet you can tell which are which!

Before that, though, a moment of news:  Java was picked up at On Angels' Wings today by his adopter.  As he's left the academy before graduation, he's officially our first "drop out!"  A lot of famous people have dropped out and still managed great things, so we hope for the best.  But we'd encourage all of you to stay in school nonetheless!  Don't be a Java!

His adopter will be returning to OAW with him when he's ready to be fixed, so that will be taken care of.  Unfortunately, this adoption was arranged before he came to the Kitten Academy, so it's uncertain whether we'll be able to expect any updates later.

Star's doing very well in her recovery, and we're hopeful that soon we'll feel comfortable letting her spend as much time as she likes with her kittens.  We'd also like to offer her the option of roaming the Academy grounds with the Faculty cats, but we're cautious about introducing too many new and exciting situations while she's convalescing.

So, that's all the important news - let's get to the photos!

Introducing the Coffee Cats!

On March 19th, the Coffee Cats transferred to Kitten Academy from one of the other fosters at On Angels' Wings.  They're already nearly ready to graduate - we anticipate they'll only need to stay at the Academy for a couple of weeks.

We'll put together a video and add them to the weight chart as soon as we can!  In the meantime, here's your kitten identification guide!

Latte - Male

Latte can be identified by his lack of collar (if he is wearing it, it's blue, but he seems to prefer to not).  In addition, his orange spots on his back are broken up with a lot of white, while Frappe and Caramel are more solid.

Caramel - Male

Caramel's easily identified by his black collar.

Frappe - Female

Frappe has a pink collar, and more white on her haunches.  Frappe has already been adopted, but will still be staying to finish her classes at the Academy!

Mocha - Male

Mocha has a brown and pink collar.

Java - Male

Java has a distinct white tail tip - a little hard to see here.  Java has also already been adopted, but will be staying on to finish out the semester.

Bean - Male

Bean is black and white!

Star - Mom

Here's some extra photos of the Coffee Cats!
